About
Kunal Ranjan
Founder
Hey there, folks! It’s me, Kunal Ranjan, and I’m here to spill the beans on my journey from being a full-time journalist to taking the plunge into the exciting world of fashion entrepreneurship with IndSutra. Grab your cup of chai or coffee, get comfy, and let’s chat!
The Shift from Newsroom to Runway
So, picture this: I spent years in the newsroom, chasing stories, and working on diverse communication projects. I mean, I was all about research, surveys, and evaluation studies. It was exhilarating, but you know what they say – change is the only constant.
The Fulbright Journey
In 2016, I got the golden ticket – the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship. I packed my bags, hopped across the pond to the USA, and found myself at Arizona State University (ASU). I attended conferences, seminars, and even worked at National Public Radio (NPR) and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in Washington D.C. It was like a crash course in global communication. Mind-blowing, I tell you!

🧵 Crafting with Love:
Our garments are a labor of love, meticulously crafted predominantly from natural fabrics like cotton and silk. We specialize in the art of handloom, taking immense pride in infusing uniqueness and excellence into every design.

🕰️ The Glorious Past: A Journey Through Time:
IndSutra is a testament to the legacy of Indian fabrics that dates back over five millennia. Ancient texts like the Rigveda and Arthashastra reference weavers (Vāya) and looms (Veman). India’s silk and cotton were sought after by traders from distant lands.
👑 Rulers and Artisans: A Time-Honored Tradition:
Throughout history, India’s rulers provided unwavering support and patronage to weavers and craftsmen. Cities like Banaras and South India thrived as global silk export hubs. Indian fabric played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle, symbolized by the burning of “bonfires of foreign cloth” during the Swadeshi movement.
🌆 The Essence of India: Beyond Attire:
For India, clothing isn’t just attire; it’s the very essence of our nation. It tells stories, preserves traditions, and embodies our identity.
🌐 An Unfinished Agenda: Sharing Stories of Artisans:
As we venture forward on the IndSutra journey, we aim to unearth and share the hidden stories of our artisans and their craft. Our yarns, fabrics, and designs reflect the incredible diversity of our country, passed down through generations.
Join us in celebrating the timeless legacy of Indian textiles. Welcome to IndSutra, where tradition meets sustainability, and every masterpiece has a story to tell.
